Cooperating Academic Institutions
Itoigawa Geopark Council works closely with academic institutions to promote local education, development and capacity building activities.
Niigata University
Since 2010, the Faculty of Science at Niigata University has been an active member of the Itoigawa Geopark Council. In April 2016, Niigata University and Itoigawa City formalized this relationship by signing a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement aimed at fostering community development and nurturing future talent.
Furthermore, in November 2020, the Fossa Magna Museum was officially designated as a Satellite Museum of the university’s Faculty of Science. Moving forward, both organizations will continue to collaborate systematically—not only in promoting Geopark activities but also across diverse fields including education, culture, nature, the environment and local industry.

Joetsu University of Education
Joetsu University of Education has been an integral member of the Itoigawa Geopark Promotion Council since its establishment in 2008 (Heisei 20).
In June 2013, a tripartite Comprehensive Partnership Agreement was signed between Joetsu University of Education, Itoigawa City, and the Council. This agreement aims to promote mutual growth through cooperation in various fields, including education, academia, the environment, and health promotion.
Key collaborative initiatives include:

Ministry of the Environment
The Nagano Regional Environmental Office of the Ministry of the Environment has been an active member of the Itoigawa Geopark Promotion Council since its founding in 2008.
Itoigawa City is home to parts of two spectacular national parks: Chubu-Sangaku National Park and Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park. When planning events that feature these national parks or take place within their boundaries, the Council works closely in tandem with the Ministry.
